Many people do not have medical insurance now.¬† They may have lost their jobs, or even if they are currently employed, their employers may not provide medical insurance. ¬†Even people with medical insurance can still end up owing large medical bills due to required “co-pays” for medication and medical services

can be very high.

However, medical bills can be wiped out in bankruptcy, in most cases.

A 2009 study found that as many as 62% of bankruptcy filings are due to medical debt.
